The Realm Beyond
(Server Introduction)

Hail, Adventurer. Welcome to TRB!

The Realm Beyond's purpose is to serve as a staging point for organizing D&D games in Shar, a shared dark fantasy universe, with house rules intended to maximize the feel of that universe with humble origins, brutal combat, and risks to your character's body and sanity, as well as expand character customization, improve game balance, and flesh out options for your character's downtime activities between adventures. Collectively, our shared metanarrative includes over one thousand pages of collectively authored lore written over the past three years and characters who have been played for dozens or even hundreds of hours in live D&D games with visible maps, voice acting, and hand-crafted narrative content. Each year, our GM staff provides more D&D sessions than you'd find in a season of Critical Role as players enter the world and make decisions, and Shar evolves and reacts in response.

Our D&D is open to everyone; You only need a computer capable of running the Roll20 site in a web browser and the ability to participate in voice chat during D&D game sessions. If you are interested in participating, you'll need to make a character using the instructions on ⁠this website. You may focus more on character creation as most of the rules are not necessary to consult right away and can be picked up in play. If you're new to D&D or concerned about house rules that do apply in play and have questions, please don't hesitate to ask our community for help in the ⁠❕-im-new-plz-help channel on Discord. You're likely to get a fairly quick response.

Once you have a character created under our house rules, you'll want to sign up for an intro session to introduce that character into the world of Shar. You can look for intros directly on the calendar, but if you don't see any, have no fear - simply post in ⁠🙋-looking-for-players that you're looking to introduce a new character, note what times work for you, and you'll soon likely find people asking to play with you and hopefully a GM to get an introductory session going.

Warning

This is a Westmarch with a mature theme where the sessions can contain a range of 18+ content including, but not limited to, gore, sexual content, torture, drugs, discrimination and racism.

Sessions are roleplay-focused where combat is dangerous and not always balanced. Actions have consequences and your characters have a high likelihood of perishing. It is advised not to write an in-depth and lengthy backstory until the character has reached level 3, due to especially lethal gameplay during the early levels.
